Ashburn Ice House
Keane purchased 12 acres of farmland on the corner of Smith Switch Road and Farmhell Road in 1998. Originally considered as a warehouse development project, competition from other developers made the team reconsider. After analyzing the projected growth of K-12 age students in Loudoun County, and the growth of ice sports at that time, the concept of the Ashburn Ice House was born.
The facility was built on an accelerated schedule of 160 days during the spring and summer of 1998, and was completed just in time for fall skating season. Keane delivered the twin-sheet facility on schedule and on budget. The Ice House includes two NHL-sized ice rinks, a weight training facility, locker rooms and a full-service pro shop.
Over the decades, thousands of ice enthusiasts have made the Ice House their home, including many Division 1 hockey players and accomplished international figure skating champions. But the primary goal is to offer a place to learn and play for recreational athletes of all ages. As longtime residents of Loudoun County, and hockey players ourselves, the Ice House is one of our most personally rewarding developments.
